Businesses still ask for the “WhatsApp green tick”, but the badge you are looking for is now a blue checkmark beside the business name. It tells customers the account really belongs to the business it claims to be. There are two routes to it, and they suit very different businesses.
How to get green tick on WhatsApp Business: two routes
| Official Business Account | Meta Verified for business | |
|---|---|---|
| Works on | The WhatsApp Business API (Business Platform) | The WhatsApp Business app |
| Cost | No fee from Meta for the badge | A paid monthly subscription |
| Who gets it | Well-known businesses that pass Meta's review | Businesses that verify their identity and subscribe |
| Main requirement | Business verification, plus evidence the brand is notable | Identity and business verification |
WhatsApp Business API verified badge requirements
On the WhatsApp Business API, the blue checkmark comes with an Official Business Account (OBA) — still the name Meta uses. According to Meta's documentation, the phone number must meet all of these conditions before you can request it:
- The business complies with the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.
- Business verification of your Meta business portfolio is complete.
- Two-step verification is switched on for the phone number.
- The number has an approved display name that matches your brand.
- The business has been registered on the WhatsApp Business Platform for at least 30 days.
Meta does not grant OBA status to test accounts, business employees or WhatsApp Business app phone numbers. Meeting the conditions only lets you apply. Meta's own onboarding guidance says the process requires evidence of a significant presence in credible news articles — so many applications are declined on notability. Paid or promotional articles generally do not help.
WhatsApp green tick approval process
- Complete business verification in Meta Business Suite with official documents that match your legal name and address — our Meta business verification guide lists what Indian businesses can use and why submissions are rejected.
- Make sure your display name follows WhatsApp's guidelines and shows as approved.
- Switch on two-step verification for the number.
- Wait until the number has been on the platform for 30 days.
- Prepare links to independent news articles about your business.
- In WhatsApp Manager, open Phone numbers, select the number, go to its Profile and submit the Official business account request with your supporting links.
- Meta reviews the request and notifies you of the decision. If it is declined, wait 30 days, strengthen your evidence and request again.
Meta Verified: the subscription route
If you use the WhatsApp Business app, Meta Verified for business is a paid subscription that adds a verified badge after Meta checks your identity and business, along with extras such as account protection and support. It is available in India. It is the practical route for smaller businesses that would not pass the notability review for an Official Business Account.
Business verification first
Business verification also raises your messaging limit from 250 to 2,000 customers a day on the API. wbm.link helps you connect your number, and our team can walk you through verification and display-name approval.
